Chinese carbon canister?
« on: July 29, 2019, 01:21:12 pm »
Hi, I'm getting the N80 error in VCDS. I had this last summer and changed the part plus the pipe work to and from the canister.

I am now looking to change the canister, has anyone used the Chinese ones from ebay? I presume the same part from the dealer it will cost a million pounds.

I got one and my car didn’t even tick over correctly with it fitted. Got a refund from eBay as it was rubbish.
Dealer one is £90 odd so not that bad value

Hi, have you changed the purge valve? That's probably causing the fault detected by VCDS, got an oem of eBay UK seller for under £30. Carbon cannister is only a filter.

I kept getting a check engine light and the fault code 'Evaporative purge flow implausible ' or something like that.  It was only every now and then, so it was easy to clear, just annoying. I knew that the cambelt had been changed by a gorilla before I bought it, and the purge valve had been glued back together. I finally got round to replacing it a month back, before a trip to Bavaria.
The check engine light hasn't come back since. The valve was all of 12€ from the dealer. I should have done it five years ago.

12 euros from the dealer, I paid just shy of £30 and that was at discount from a dealer. fair play.

These issues usually relate to the purge valve and it's those that cause the loud-ish clicky relay - tappet noise too.

of course, if the fault consists then its probably the canister.

yeah, I changed the valve last summer but over the last 6 months or so I check the EML light come on which I can clear but it eventually comes back after a month or so.  I'm presuming the replacement part hasn't failed after a year but that could be possible.

The canister is coming from China so I'll see what VCDS says after I fit it.
